6/20 10pm $10 Born in Chicago in 1974 to musician parents, Eric Levy was exposed to a variety of musical styles at an early age, including jazz, classical, and down home Windy City gospel and blues, which helped to shape his wide musical range. His father was a well-known local jazz flautist, and a preeminent early programmer of synthesizer sounds. In fact, Eric programs all of his own patches, a result of his father's teachings. His mother is a church singer and a guitarist in her own right. From the beginning, his parents gave musical direction to Eric, often sacrificing luxury so that Eric (and his sister) could receive the best training and access to the best equipment. Eric’s unique keyboard style in addition to his classical and jazz training translating seamlessly into his unique sound, with a percussive style reminiscent of John Medeski mixed with the wailing, almost guitar-god-esque keyboard sounds of Jan Hammer. In September of 2000, keyboardist Eric Levy made his first visit to San Francisco. There he met drummer, Alan Hertz and they proceeded to play together in the band Garaj Mahal. Other than his several years as the drummer for Garaj Mahal, Alan’s claim to fame was being involved in the band KVHW along with Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega, and Ray White. His newest project has been playing and touring Europe with the Scott Henderson Band. Alan was recently showcased in Modern Drummer Magazine. On Saturday night, June 20th, the two shall reunite on stage of the Connecticut Yankee. Joined by bassist, Jonathan Herrera (Petalpusher), Levy's Love Lounge plays music which satisfies both the body and the mind. |

6/27 First Born Alexander and Urcuyo discovered common musical ground while playing in the funk and soul cover outfit Spankhouse Shakedown. When Spankhouse broke up, Urcuyo and Alexander decided to start a new project. Alexander called up Aicardi, who was tired of playing sitting down anyway and the three hit craigslist in search of drummers. This was how they found Ronnie Bucceri. Ronnie was more used to playing hard rock and metal, but his crisp playing, lightning-fast adaptation to new styles and mellow, down-to-earth personality made him an instant fit. The four began writing originals and the rest, as they say, is history.
